Los Angeles County is considering imposing a $54.00 a year tax on property owners located with the Upper L.A. River Watershed. Atwater Village, along with other Northeast L.A. communities, is located within that watershed district. 

The County sent out non-descript notices earlier in the week explaining proposed $54 yearly fee. The proposed fee is supposed to fund local and regional projects to help keep pollution out of stromwater and runoff. If approved the proposed fee would be collected with the property taxes beginning on the 2013-2014 County of Los Angeles property tax role. 

The notice has a "protest form" if property owners choose to protest it. Property owners can also write a letter protesting the proposed fee. Letters should be sent to the: Board of Supervisors at PO Box 866006, Los Angeles, CA 90086. A written protest must identify the parcel address and assessor’s parcel number, and must be signed by the property owner.
